Do You Have Missing Money?!

Have you ever heard of MissingMoney.com? I actually posted about this web-site back in April 2010 and I could not believe the number of readers who discovered that they had money waiting for them from past employers, utility companies and more.

MissingMoney.com is a national database that was established in 1999 by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) and enables people like you and me to perform comprehensive searches for lost assets required by law to be turned over to the states and provinces. What does this mean in plain English… you can search for money owed to you!

The most common types of unclaimed property include:
* Bank accounts and safe deposit box contents
* Stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and dividends
* Uncashed checks and wages
* Insurance policies, CD’s, trust funds
* Utility deposits, escrow accounts

To search for your own missing money, here are the steps that you need to follow:

*Click here, enter your name, and click on “go.” You can do an individual, family or business search (you can even search for a deceased family member).
*If you find a match, you must complete a claim form. Most states and provinces require a specific form to be completed which asks pertinent information about the property and proof of ownership, such as copies of checkbook, passbook, bonds, etc.
*Follow the instructions to complete the specified form and supply any necessary documentation and identification.
*The claim form and ID are then mailed to the state for review. The state will respond to you directly after they have reviewed your submission and verified that you are the rightful owner.
*Most states send you an acknowledgment letter after receiving your claim. Claims processing time frames vary between states and provinces and property to property based upon claim activity.
Please note that there are currently only 45 states whose records are contained in the MissingMoney database: click here to view the list of participating states (Illinois will be added soon).

Here’s what some readers have stated about their experience with MissingMoney:

Hello Collin, Over a year ago you posted about the website missingmoney.com.  Since then my late Grandfather’s unfound accounts were discovered by me thru your website.  Value over $3000.00.  My husband was unsure about that site and did not want me to submit for the 2 I found in our names and 5 in his business name.  Finally the paperwork was submitted and we got over $1300.00 back for us when things were really tight.  It would be great for a repost of this great site.

I looked several years ago and found out that my Uncle had some bonds that my Grandpa bought that nobody knew about and he ended up selling for a couple thousand dollars! Then my Dad had a life insurance policy that his parents got for him when he was born and he cashed it in for like $1500. Then my husband had 2 different ones that were deposits from utilities that came to $135.
I have had 2 different family members of mine that I found on there. One was an old bank account her mother had prior to passing away that was left to her, the other was and old alimony payment my grandfather made to my grandmother that got lost. Both case they got their money back. One was over $900.00.
