One of the best travel deals around is the lifetime America the Beautiful pass offered to US citizens and permanent residents age 62 and older. For just a one-time fee of $10, you get free admission to the more than 2000 US national parks, recreation areas and national monuments for the rest of your life!! One visit pays for the pass. What’s more: your family and friends save too when they travel with you, even if they aren’t over 60. Most parks charge a fee per vehicle. If one person has a senior pass, all of the occupants of the car enter free. Just one more reason to take grandma on vacation with you this fall.
How do I sign up?!
To get the pass, you can download the application here. You need to show proof of age (like a driver’s license or government ID) and proof of residency. It’s best to pick up your pass at a park office because applying for it via mail adds an additional $20 processing fee.
To give you an idea of the savings: without the pass, Yosemite National Park charges $20 per car, Grand Canyon National Park charges $25 per vehicle, and Everglades National Park charges $10 per vehicle. Passes are good for admission only. Such things as camping permits, ranger tours and purchases from concessions in the park are additional.
