There are lots of Christmas Tree Lighting festivities happening around town this weekend! Pick one (or two!), heat up a thermos of hot chocolate, bundle up, and head out to create a fun memory for your family!  Many of these events have a rain plan as well (check the website), so don’t let that keep you at home.

Keller Town Center Holly DaysWhat:  Young and young-at-heart will enjoy the free festivities, which include arrival of Santa stage entertainment, arts and crafts, a two-lane tubing hill, gingerbread house decoration and much more.

City of Roanoke Christmas Event & 20th Anniversary ParadeWhat:  Get your seat early at Oak & Austin in historic Downtown Roanoke  ~ enjoy the lighted parade, tree-lighting, strolling carolers, horse and carriage rides, and more.  A Victorian Christmas at the Visitor Center & Museum makes this a festive time for everyone. Enjoy free treats from participating downtown Roanoke businesses and a family sing-along after the parade. Visit the Rec.  Fort Worth Stockyards Christmas & Tree Lighting CelebrationWhat:  Fort Worth Stockyards Christmas Celebration has an evening of fun planned including lighting of the Christmas tree, a holiday parade, Cowboy Santa, pony rides, petting zoo, caroling, and much more!

:: FREE! 51st Anniversary ~ Littlest Wiseman Christmas Pageant
December 3-11, 2011
The Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts performs The Littlest Wiseman, a pageant of the Nativity and presented as a Christmas gift to the community by the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir and through a grant from the Walsh Foundation. This gift to Fort Worth has been in production for over 50 years and is an annual tradition for many families. Tickets are FREE, but it is recommended that you make reservations in advance.

Visit Santa at Sundance Square.  The jolly old elf will be waiting to hear Christmas wishes at his home near the towering Sundance Square Christmas tree, adorned with thousands of lights, colorful balls and sparkling snowflakes. Kids can get their picture taken with Santa too! Free entertainment and live Christmas music will be performed throughout the day and evening (see theentertainment schedule here).

Get a taste of farm life just steps away from the heart of the city. Historic Nash Farm in Grapevine is hosting a FREE Victorian Christmas.  Christmas on the farm was a mostly hand-made affair. Wreaths and decorations made from local greenery, and late-harvest fruits and vegetables. Gifts were thoughtful and simple. Visit Nash Farm to make your own traditional ornaments like cotton-ball angels, paper chains, wrapped peanuts and popcorn strings!

Journey to Bethlehem is a funfilled family adventure that puts you right in the middle of the Christmas story! On this unique outdoor presentation, you’ll encounter Roman soldiers on horseback, wise men and their camels, and you’ll marvel at the sights and sounds of the bustling marketplace in Bethlehem, plus other surprises along the way! The Journey ends at the manger moments after the baby Jesus has been born.
Our guides take groups of 25 – 30 people at a time through the tour. Enjoy music, live entertainment, and games for the kids
INDOORS while you wait to be taken on the Journey. At the end of the Journey, enjoy hot chocolate in the reception tent. Journey to Bethlehem is for people of all ages and is a family-friendly event. You will need to be able to walk a quarter mile outdoors.

Lake Dallas Celebrates the Holidays at City Hall

An evening of free holiday festivities is scheduled including a visit by Santa Claus to meet with the children. Horse-drawn wagon rides, live musical entertainment, refreshments, and holiday crafts for the children are all part of the celebration. Musical entertainment from the Lake Dallas High School Show Choir Sweet Harmony will start the evening. Members of the All District Children’s Choir will serenade Santa
Claus upon his arrival with his favorite Christmas carols. The Lake Dallas Jazz Band will light-up the evening in City Hall with the season’s best instrumentals while Santa retires to the Council Chambers to visit with local youngsters and have his photograph taken with them.

Coppell Lighted Parade and Tree Lighting

The Holiday Parade begins at 6:30pm. To add intrigue and illumination to the parade, every float will be lit up with holiday lights! The route will remain the same – Samuel to Parkway, ending at Town Center Plaza. Parade Route: Begins at Parkway and Samuel, and travels westward to Town Center Blvd., just west of City Hall. Parking is available on the  north side of the Justice Center, 130 Town Center Blvd., and at the Aquatic and Recreation Center, 234 Parkway Blvd.

15th Annual Christmas in a Small Town Tour of Homes – Terrell

Thirty-five minutes from Dallas, Terrell is filled with beautiful old homes and five, built between 1883 and 1926, will be on this year’s holiday tour, plus a classic Texas farmhouse. The architectural styles run the gamut from a Painted Lady to a stately Colonial. The Christmas Shoppe, open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., will be in the splendid First Christian Church, with its structure dating to 1881, and will offer stocking stuffers, baked goods and gift items for the whole family along with hot chocolate and warm cider.
